People
The Oxford University China-Africa Network was founded in 2008 by graduate students Amreeta Mathai (Development Studies), Nikia Clarke (Politics), Georgina Powell (Development Studies), Marian Urbina-Ferretjans (Social Policy), and Harry Verhoeven (Politics) under the active 'patronage' of Dr. Ricardo Soares de Oliveira (Lecturer, Politics). The initial idea for a China-Africa Network in Oxford goes back to an initiative by Alexandra Gadzala (Politics) in 2007, subsequently developed into a formal 'OUCAN' by Amreeta, Nikia, Harry, Georgie and Marian in 2008-2009.
